You're probably familiar with the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. This is for those of us who have grown up and now that we're grown, we're actually interested in learning new skills--some practical, some fun--but have no idea where to start.
Grown-Up Scouts is not a challenge or a competition, unless you want it to be. The basic premise is simple: pick a skillset you want to explore and go as far as you want to go, or are able to go, in that skillset. Each skill comes with 5 levels of ability, starting at an introductory level and increasing with difficulty and time commitment. Although we try to keep this as free or low-cost as possible, some skills (like martial arts) are best learned with an instructor, and classes tend to have a price tag. Skill pages also include some online resources to help you get started or suggestions of where to look for in-person skill-building opportunities.
There are downloadable trackers for each skill so the more competitive-minded folks can mark their progress, and there are links on each skill page to purchase a sticker or sew-on badge inspired by the skill. You don't need to reach the 5th tier in a skill to get a badge! Not only is that unenforceable, but adult life is messy and busy, and you may not even want to go "all the way" in a given skill. Learning to change a tire may be the most in-depth you want to go with auto mechanics, but that's still an accomplishment.
